The sixth grade year is an exciting one at Aldrin with many wonderful activities throughout the year, such as getting class t-shirts, yearbook signing breakfast, the sixth-grade carnival, a promotion march through the school and pool party at Lake Newport.
New this year is a sixth-grade basketball game with Hunters Woods Elementary School. This is being planned for May and will be a fundraiser that will be split between the two schools. Fifty-percent of the money Aldrin receives will go to the sixth-grade class to help fund the sixth-grade activities. The sixth-grade class will have a couple of other fundraisers during the year to help with the events planned: Dining for Dollars, Skate Night and bake sale at Bingo Night.
For these programs to be successful, we need parent volunteers to chair the activities. A list of the activities and a short description of each is listed in the document below. The document includes dates for many of the events including the Sixth Grade Promotion Ceremony. If you are interested chairing any of these activities, please sign up here. We will need a chair for every activity in order for the event to take place. There will also be plenty of opportunity to volunteer at these events.
In addition, sixth-grade students will participate in a service project that will be teacher-lead with parent support. Information about this will be communicated by the teachers after January. Some of you have asked about service hours especially with the holidays coming up and a lot of opportunity available to fulfill those hours. The guidance counselors will be speaking to the students about service hour requirements. There are two field trips planned for the year, including Pamplin Park in June which is an Aldrin sixth-grade tradition.
