PTA Welcome Letter

By now, you should have received a copy of the PTA’s Back-to-School welcome letter in your mailbox.  If you have not received this letter, you can click HERE for the 2010 Welcome Letter.

New Family Tour – September 2, 1:30-2:00 – There is a PTA sponsored tour of the school for families new to Aldrin – this is just a tour of the facilities and a good time to ask some general questions. This is not the “Meet Your Teacher” time and this is not intended for kindergarten families who attended the kindergarten orientation in the spring.

“Meet Your Teacher” Open House – September 2, 2:00 – 3:00- All students are welcome to join us for the “Meet Your Teacher” open house…you can pick up pre-ordered school supply kits, find your classroom and meet your 2010-11 teacher.

“Popsicles on the Playground” - September 2, 3:00 – The PTA invites all Aldrin students and siblings to join us on the playground to enjoy popsicles with your friends, immediately following the “Meet Your Teacher” open house. Please note that teachers will not be available at the popsicle event.

fyi…Class lists will be posted on the doors at exits 1 and 5 on Wednesday, September 1, at 4:30 pm and will remain there throughout the Labor Day weekend.

“When you get involved with the PTA, the child who benefits most is your own”.

Our message is simple – WE NEED YOUR HELP!  The PTA is looking for chairpeople to fill some key positions for 2010-11.  Without volunteers, we are in jeopardy of losing some very important programs this year.

  1. Outside Sign
  2. Family Movie Night
  3. Family Fun Dance
  4. Dining for Dollars Chairperson

New to school? No PTA experience? No problem! The PTA is a friendly group! We’ll help you or we’ll partner you with a co-chair that has more experience with the PTA. Plus, there is lots of information available from past years to help guide you along the way.

If you are interested volunteering, please e-mail Stephanie Weeks at sweeks1@gmail.com.

We are currently seeking feedback from Aldrin families to see if there is interest in starting an Odyssey of the Mind program.

From the Odyssey of the Mind web site:
Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.

Please e-mail Dannielle LaRosa at ddlarosa@verizon.net if you think your family is interested in participating in and/or volunteering for this program.

Have other ideas for new programs, events or services the PTA can provide at Aldrin?  Be sure to check out our new suggestion form HERE.

Don’t forget about your PTA this summer…there are small things you can do now that will help us in the fall!

1. Clean out your toy boxes and closets - We will once again host a teacher “yard sale” in the fall. How it works – donations from Aldrin families are collected and made available (free of charge) to our teachers. It’s setup like a yard sale in the cafeteria and teachers pick things they need for their classrooms. This was so popular last year – and much appreciated by the Aldrin staff!

Items needed include:  toys, books, Legos, craft supplies, treasure box toys (like Happy Meal toys, party favors, etc.), board games for indoor recess, old magazines, empty baby food jars, plastic storage containers…if you think a teacher could use it, please save it for the fall yard sale.  More details will be sent home after back-to-school.

2. Look into your company’s donation matching program so you’ll be ready with that information for our Direct Contribution Campaign in the fall.

3. Help your child start their 2010-11 Reflections Entry for the Reflections art contest. For more details and rules, click HERE.

4. Sign up for the PTA Newsletter. In 2010-11, the PTA will be going paperless - help us use less paper by signing up to receive e-mails instead.

5. Rest up…because we need you in 2010-11! While lounging at the pool, consider all of the wonderful opportunities available on the PTA. We still have one open board position and several open chairperson positions…one of those is waiting for your talents!
